Ministry of Economy supports summer and winter destination resort

The State Secretary of Ministry of Economy SR Ivan Rybarík met representatives of Dorchester Group of Companies and also the representatives of Spiská Nova Ves. The main goal of the meeting was to discuss the details of the possible realization of a summer and winter destination resort in the tourist region of Eastern Slovakia close to the town of Spisska Nova Ves. The representatives present from the Ministry of Economy after evaluating the technical parameters of the project introduced by the investor, informed the investor about its priorities, which is development of tourism. The Ministry of Economy has confirmed that it will support tourism over and above industry in this location. Tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy. It should become an important pillar in the development of regions with a high percentage of unemployment and also help to create more balance to the economy where there are now regional differences. The Ministry of Economy have complied a strategic study of tourism development. This study assumes in the midterm that the share of the Tourist sector to the economy will be equivalent to 4% of Slovak GDP (Gross Domestic Product). The project introduced by Dorchester can also be incorporated into the category that conforms to the objectives and targets of tourism development. For this reason the Ministry of Economy is prepared to give its full authority and support to this project, more particularly as it will be a complex, which will serve the role of a regional leader where the investor will realize its know-how to attract international tourists to the area.

Project Spissky Raj as represented by Dorchester Group of Companies to the Ministry of Economy will comprise of a summer and winter destination resort. The project is to develop an area of 70 sq km of mountainous terrain into a variety of summer and winter activities.

The cost of the project is estimated to be around 400 mil. Euro. This will bring great economic benefits to the region, creating many thousands of job positions and will serve to increase the living standards and general prosperity of the region.
